ESN Groningen Newsletter week 17

Dear ESNers,

Happy B’day Willem-Alexander! Yes yes, tomorrow our king will turn 50 years old! If you like the royalties or not, it’s a day you can’t miss in The Netherlands. It’s by far our most known national holiday. Everyone will be dressed up in orange and the streets will be full of people selling their old stuff, having a nice time with friends and parties. Don’t forget to get the full Dutch spirit and buy some nice orange stuff at for example So Low, Albert Heijn or the others shops in the city. Do you want to know more about Kingsday? Check the following link

After Kingsday it’s time to think about summer again. That’s why we will organize a nice sport event in the weekend for you! On Saturday 29th of April we’re going to practice our waterski skills. Tickets for these events can either be bought online or in the office this Friday! Unfortunately, the office will be closed on Thursday due to Kingsday.

Check below for all the other activities!
Enjoy Kingsday and hope to see you all soon!
On behalf of the ESN Board 2016//2017,

ESN and SIB: Going Global, Are we World Citizens? (1st of May, free)
SIB and ESN are joining forces in cohosting their next pub lecture! Our culture is what defines us, yet what culture defines you? National culture now plays a different role than it used to play and with global citizenship becoming more and more important. We ask: What is global citizenship? And how would you identify yourself? And the bigger picture. What effects does this shift of attention from national to global culture have? What can history tell us about this topic and how will the future look like? Mr Pieter Boele Van Hensbroek, philosopher, and mr Jesse van Amelsvoort, Euroculture researcher, will share their views on global citizenship and engage in debate for the answer. Interested just like us? Join this special lecture and share your opinion in the debate!
