What is the International Week?
The International Week is organised by five student associations in Groningen: Aegee, Sib, ESN, Dizkartes and Albertus. The goals of the International Week are: stimulating international and Dutch students, especially from the University of Groningen and the Hanze University, to get to know each others' cultures; make students acquainted with the cultural diversity Groningen has to offer; and promote the integration of students with different cultural backgrounds.
What is the yearclub mix?
A yearclub (in Dutch: jaarclub) is a group of students who met each other because they all joined a particular student association in the same year. In the so-called introduction period all the new students get the chance to get to now each other and decide to form a club (a yearclub) with a particular group of people (almost always of the same sex) they like. These groups normally consist of about 7 to 15 students and often are or become good friends doing all kinds of activities of which the weekly yearclub evening (in Dutch: Jaarclub avond) is the most significant to mention.
In Groningen there are 7 larger student associations: Vindicat, Albertus, Dizkartes, Cleopatra, Fleks, Unitas, Dionysos and Bernlef. They all aim at different types of people and therefore all have a particular reputation. Bernlef for example focuses on students from the province of Friesland and Cleopatra on the more alternative students.
