International Houses Contest Part I: MARTINIHOUSE!!

Tue, 27/04/2010 - 23:20 — reporters@esn-g...

Date: 26th of April
Location: Donderslaan, Groningen
Event: International Houses Contest Kick-Off – Martinihouse!

That’s right: last night, the ESN Reporters met the first contestant in the ESN International Houses Contest...the people of MARTINIHOUSE were faced with the difficult task of setting the standard for this competition between the 4 biggest international houses in Groningen (we’re sorry to say that the Blekerslaan house is NOT taking part anymore!).

Let me tell you straight away, inhabitants of Winschoterdiep, Van Houtenlaan and Albertine Agnusplein….you’re going to have to come up with something DAMN GOOD if you still even want to have a shot at becoming International Student House of 2010! Martinihouse people are great cooks, great company, and – unfortunately – great ping pong players! After years of not playing you forget how addictive a game it actually is…

Austrian chef Madeleine and Belgian sous-chef Natan prepared us a delicious meal of….an Austrian version of pancakes that I can’t remember the name of right now, but who cares: it was GOOOOD!! And coming from someone who’s from a country where pancakes are an essential part of the national staple diet, that’s a big compliment! Nice work guys! Don’t know what was better, the dinner or the Belgian beers that accompanied it…:P

The plan was to get a tour of the house after dinner, but then something came up…the ping pong table to be exact. As it appears that Martinihouse people are ruthless when it comes to sports – especially Belgians :P – this was not a friendly game of ping pong, this was an hour of more intense exercise than many of us had had in ages! I’m ashamed to say that us poor Dutch girls were taken to the cleaners by these semi-pro's that seemed to have been practicing as long as Forrest Gump himself, but we had FUN! :)

As you can tell, we had a wonderful evening! Many thanks to all the lovely people in Martinihouse that made this happen…contest or no contest, I’d say we should do it again soon! This time we’re going straight for the ping pong table, I want revenge…:P

Up next: Albertine Agnusplein, May 2nd!! Looking forward to it!
